Topsoil can be placed as the top 100mm of soil. This usually has the essential nutrients that generally all plants require. This shows the importance of buying soil as opposed to subsoil. Make sure of the type of soil you need before ordering. Bs3882 product is a base model that generally most plants will grow from.
You may require a more specific soil for exotic plants. This makes it very important for you to do some research on what your plants actually require.
Topsoil colours can differ due pure geography so not all topsoil is the same colour but the quality will still be there. We can determine the to constituents of the soil from the analysis sheet. This sheet will give you an indication as to what the soil contains and what you may need to add or subtract to meet your planting requirements.
Our base product topsoil has no additives so is described as General Purpose topsoil

Below are typical results of a BS3882 Test
Bespoke production of topsoil
Our dedicated team of soil engineers are capable of producing any type of topsoil that you require, from root zone mixes to garden potting soil, we can make it all!
With the latest machinery we can fine grade our topsoil to between five and 10 millimetres which is a very easy working fine grade topsoil that is suitable for almost any garden.
Much of our soil is screened to 20mm. This is a standard size for most deliveries and can raise levels without loosing shape.
Depending on what your end use is for the soil you may like to know that our general purpose topsoil is suitable for most turfing, planting and seeding. This makes our product perfect for multi use gardens. The soil will usually be screened down to 20mm, but 10mm if requested.
For information of the various types and grades of topsoil. The internet is a great source of knowledge. There is a great deal of text on this subject, for trades and for the domestic garden. Our company supplies to both so we are delivering large loads and small loads on a daily basis.
Production of soil
Most of our product is produced by screening from agricultural sites. This process involves the removal of the soil from site and taken to our screening plant. The soil is then placed through a screener and then reduced in size to 10 or 20mm. If a smaller size is required then the soil must be left to dry so that it can pass through the screening grid. Wet soil poses a problem for all screeners so soil must be left to dry out
After the soil has been screened we are left with a nice pile of fairly uniform material which is our basic BS3882 soil.
Bulk trade topsoil
Many of our clients are trade customers who buy large quantities of soil, because of the volume of the order we offer a generous discount on the price we can also apply this to private customers ordering large quantities of materials.
We also supplies quality materials to the housing industry. If you are a main contrctor looking for a supplier of BS3882 standard grade soil please contact us on 01932 232 777 to discuss supply to your sites.
What is in your soil?
Our topsoil has all the nutrients that your garden will require. We can make you a custom soil if you require, in fact we can bespoke you any make of topsoil you can think of but you will have to give the specification to our topsoil engineers. e.g.: 60/40 loam mix also known as a high loam mix
The ph (acidity level) of our soil is around 7-7.5. Again this can be adjusted to meet the needs of your topsoil.
Why is ph important? Good question. Well some plants or shrubs require a different acid level to grow in. Some require a hi ph and some require a low ph. This usually applies to plants from other countries where the topsoil and temperature is different.
What does the ph number mean? Another very good question. Put simply, the higher the number the lower the acidity. Yes that is correct the higher the number the lower the acidity.
A ph of 7 is considered neutral therefore if your topsoil has a ph of 5 it has a higher acid level.
If your topsoil has a ph of 9 it has a lower acid level. And it is as simple as that. You may also want to check out our silica sand if you are interested in sand for equestrian purposes.Give me money
